To use something other than the standard data types when creating custom fields, you
can create your own custom data types.
What you should know
Custom data types define a list of values based on a standard data type. Custom data types
appear in a drop-down list in the Custom fields tab of the entity’s configuration
page.
To create a custom data type for a custom field:

Open the System task, and click the General
settings view.

Click the Custom fields page, and click the Custom
data types tab.

Click at the bottom of the custom data type
list.

In the Edit custom data type page, enter the
Name, Description, and
Type for your custom data type, and click
Next.

In the Data entry page, enter a value in the
Value field and click .
The entered value is added to the enumerated list.

Define other possible values for this data type.

When you are finished, click Next, Next,
and Close.
